The UMCC is one of the oldest racing clubs in Northern Ireland. The club is affiliated to the BRCA, and some of our members regularly make the journey to compete in National meetings in the UK. As a club, it is our intention to cater for as many racers as possible and, in doing so, help to develop the sport in this region. Radio controlled model car racing covers a vast array of classes and abilities. The cars range from the “ready to go” variety you see in toy and catalogue shops, through to the top of the range chassis only kits such as Associated, Schumacher,Tamiya, and Xray etc designed specifically for competition use. At present the majority of our club members race 1/10th scale touring cars and compete in either a Pro-stock class (motor limit of 19t brushed or 10.5 brushless) or open modified, however we also have a mini-z section racing, and during Autumn/Winter we have a 1/12th pan car series.

During the winter months are racing moves indoors to the sports hall at Bangor Grammar School, Bangor Co Down. A couple of years ago the club purchased carpet which is purpose made for the RC industry, this gives incredible grip indoors similar to that experienced on tarmac, this has made the indoor series very competitive, with a vey good turn out of drivers.

Most beginners start by driving their new “toy” around the garden or on the street. After a while they get tired of this – what they need is some competition. This is where a local model car club, such as ours, can help. We are actively involved in the organization of a number of outdoor championships that are contested from April to September. These include both club and national competitions, which can in turn lead to qualification for European and World Championships. Radio control car racing is a sport that is open to all, no matter what age, and while it has a predominantly male following, girls are not precluded from getting involved as well!
